This species natural develops white circle patterns of wax on its stems. You can see examples in the third and fourth photo here. If that's not the ring you're describing and you bought the plant from us, you can send a photo to info@mountaincrestgardens.com and we'll do our best to diagnose it. Be sure to include the following information about your cactus if you email us.
1. Growing conditions (full sun, part sun, filtered sun, indoors, outdoors, etc.)
