"Full sun" means six or more hours without shade while direct sun means the sun is directly shining on a plant. The difference is mainly in time. For example, a plant that the sun shins on for four hours is receiving direct sunlight for four hours, but it is not receiving full sun. That plant would have to receive two more hours of sun to be described as receiving full sun.
