S. heuffelii tend to have more vibrant jewel tones in all seasons. They're also hardy down to -30F (zone 4) whereas other Sempervivum are hardy to -20F (zone 5). They also spread through "crown division" instead of sending out chicks on long stolons. You can find more details about the differences here
