Pteris ferns are most easily propagated via division. Dig the plant up in the spring and gently wash the soil off of the roots. You'll find a thick piece of stem below the ground that the roots and fronds (the leaf like structures) emerge from. This is called a rhizome. Cut this rhizome in half, making sure both halves have some roots and, at least, two fronds. Pot these cuttings up individually and you'll have two separate Pteris ferns.
