Mostly, time is the biggest determining factor in air plant blooming. Once they reach a certain level of maturity, they bloom and produce pups. The process can be expedited with proper care and, despite the mother rosette dying afterwards, blooming is a sign of good health.
Air plants like a lot of indirect sun. Any room that has bright windows or skylights works well for them. In the cooler mornings, they can tolerate some direct sun, but prefer indirect light as they can be prone to sunburn.
