The latin name for this plant is Dracaena trifasciata, although we use the old name (Sansevieria trifasciata) because that name has been around longer. The cultivar 'Black Dragon' was created in cultivation (cultivar = cultivated variety) so, according the the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature, the full Latin name is used, followed by 'Black Dragon'.
