What is a good pot depth for a growing mangave?

The roots of my Mangave bad hair day are bursting out of the drainage hole after its first summer outside! How short can I cut the roots and what depth should an appropriate pot be?

That's awesome that your Mangave is doing so well!
These plants can get big, and do so quickly, so a 10" to 12" deep pot would work well. If its roots get deeper than that, just go deeper in pot depth by a few inches.
Trimming the roots is not ideal. If you have to trim the roots to get it out of its old pot, then just trim them enough to do so. It's better that the root system stays intact as this helps prevent rot.
