Click the link below to check out our plants that will do well in zone 9. It's a long list, so here are some highlights.
1) Anything Mangave on this list: These plants are hybrids between Agave and Manfreda. The Agave parent brings its robust leaves and the Manfreda parent brings its interesting coloration. The result is a gorgeous landscape plant with vibrant colors.
2) Tradescantia pallida 'Purpurea': this purple spiderwort is a beautiful tailing plant with large, plum purple leaves. It's great for hanging baskets and it develops bubblegum pink blooms, which contrasts the darker colors of the leaves nicely.
3) Opuntia on this list: Many of these cacti are actually hardy down to zone 5 but they'll grow very well in zone 9 too. Their long spines and proud stem segments make them rather intimidating in the garden bed, but their blooms are phenomenal and, in many species, prolific!
