It's not that bottom watering is bad per se, but it relies on soil being able to absorb moisture. The gritty mix, by design, barely does that.
If the plant doesn't show signs of dehydration (wrinkly, flaccid leaves), then the soil should be fine. If the plant does show signs of dehydration, and increasing the frequency of watering doesn't help, just dig it up and mix the gritty mix with regular potting soil in a 1:1 ratio.
