Yes. Aloe vera is the most "up to date" name for this plant. However, Philip Miller, the botanist who first scientifically described this plant, gave it the name Aloe barbadensis in 1694 because he found it first on the island of Barbados.
Another botanist named Nicolaas Laurens Burman renamed the plant to Aloe vera in 1768 and that's the name that stuck.
