Correct Soil
Kalanchoe blossfeldiana - Flaming Katy, Christmas Kalanchoe
I have a very small kalanchoe blossfeldana that I have planted in Shultz Catcus & Palm bagged soil. I feel like this soil stays too wet, despite only very minimal watering. The plant itself looks ok with a few blooms, but it is very small and hasn't grown much since purchasing. My question is, should I add more of "something" (sand, perilite, etc.) to the soil to help it drain and dry out more easily. Your website with the great pictures has been so wonderful for helping me identify other succulent that I have recently purchased. Thanks for your help.

You're very welcome! We try to be as accurate as possible with our ID.
I looked up some reviews and forums that talk about that particular soil and I find that people have the same suspicion as you do. It holds water too well to be a good succulent soil and people really recommend cutting it with something grittier. Perlite, coarse sand, or pumice should absolutely help. I've also heard of people mixing this soil in a 50/50 ratio with chicken grit or even aquatic plant soil for cactus, but Kalanchoe can take a bit more water so you may not have to be that extreme about it.
However, this may not be the only issue. You could try gradually moving it into more light to encourage growth. Fertilizing is also a possibility. If you go this route, I would recommend using a 1/4 or 1/2 strength fertilizer every two weeks during the growing season in the spring to summer. I hope this all helps!
