With over 700 species and cultivars in our collection, it can be hard to pick out the perfect succulents. You can make things easy on yourself by picking varieties that grow easily in the particular conditions of your home or climate.
For Outdoors
- Use our Cold Hardiness filter to find varieties that can tolerate winters in your zone (what's my hardiness zone?)
- For partial sun, pick varieties like Sempervivum (Hens & Chicks), hardy Sedum, and Rosularia & Prometheum
- For full sun areas, choose Opuntia cactus, Sempervivum heuffelii, and hardy Sedum
- Hardy succulents can grow outdoors year-round in most of the US, but you can grow soft succulents outdoors in pots as long as you bring them indoors before risk of frost
- If the plants will be near a sunny window, colorful soft succulents like Echeveria, soft Sedum, and tender hybrids will do well
- If the room does not have a sunny window, your best choice would be varieties that tolerate low-light, like Haworthia, Crassula (Jade), and all of the varieties in our Indoor Succulents category
