My string of buttons is drying out near the soil. Why is this happening? How do I fix this?

Should I cut off and propagate the healthy part of the plant that is above the dried out part near the soil?

Crassula perforata will naturally lose its lower leaves and go woody at the base of its stems as it gets older. This allows the plant to focus on its new leaves which will be more exposed to light.
You could make a cutting of the leafier top of the plant, but it would only be a temporary solution. If you want to do that, click the link below to read our guide on taking and rooting cuttings. This plant roots without difficulty.
