That's fair! Taxonomy can be very confusing! We'll try to clear some things up for you.
For starters, this plant is not variegated. It's a normal Crassula exilis ssp. cooperi.
The name "tiger jade" is a common name so there isn't a lot of significance in that name. What matters is the scientific name, Crassula exilis ssp. cooperi. The term "tiger jade" is just a more fun way of referring to it. If some other plant ends up getting called a tiger jade, it's not a big deal so long as its scientific name is different.
A classic example of common names being a bit confusing is with ice plants. Lot's of succulents in the family Aizoaceae are called ice plant. We sell a few of them like Corpuscularia lehmannii! However, there is also a very invasive plant on the beaches of California called ice plant. They both have the same common name, ice plant, but they are very different from each other.
