That depends on what you have in mind. Commonly, people will hot glue gun succulent cuttings onto pumpkins to create a neat arrangement. If that's the direction you want to go, here is our guide to doing just that!
If you want to use the pumpkins as pots, I'd recommend using smaller pumpkins because a standard pumpkin would be too big for most succulents to start out with. Then I'd use a gritty, well draining soil from your local garden store (or you can order that from us here). That's everything you would really need!
I highly recommend poking drainage holes in the bottom of your pumpkins, not only to keep the succulents from rotting, but also to keep the pumpkin itself from rotting for as long as possible. You could also line the pumpkin with plastic before filling with soil and then poke your drainage holes from the inside. That way, the torn plastic might poke though the hole and cover the edges of the hole, while still allowing the water to drain!
