Each of these plugs are roughly 1.2" across and, although I recommend buying a bigger pot than that, I wouldn't go above 2.5" nor would I go below 1.5".
There are two pots that would work with this, that we sell, and the only real difference between them is cost and looks.
These two pots are the 2.3" plastic terracotta pot and the 1.8" terracotta pot.
The bigger pot is just made of plastic, although it's colored like terracotta. Obviously, it's much cheaper but it may not look as nice. You'll have to see for yourself. Personally, I find their looks to be similar enough to real terracotta that this is negligible. The main difference is, of course, the size. This plastic pot is a half an inch bigger than the terracotta one.
The real terracotta pot looks perhaps a little nicer, especially since the size is a better match to the size of the plug. A major disadvantage, besides the cost, is the fragility of these vs. the plastic. These are made with fairly thick terracotta but it's still terracotta. You certainly do not want to drop these.
