I would just pot it in a 3.5" pot to start.
As far as how often you'll have to repot it and how fast "faster than Agave" is depends on growing conditions. How much water will it get? How much sunlight? Is the soil well draining? Will you fertilize and, if you do, how much fertilizer will you give it? The answers to these questions will each affect the growing speed to the point where it's really not worth it to try and put an estimate on how fast it's going to grow.
I recommend just potting it in a 3.5" pot, growing it for a month or two, and then checking the root ball to see if it needs to be repotted. If the root ball fully permeates the pot, I'd repot it into a 5" or even 6" pot.
