We retain "bicolor" as the specific epithet because, on Gasteria, we defer to Brian Kemble and Ernst van Jaarsveld. Both of these Gasteria experts maintain the name Gasteria bicolor var. bicolor rather than Gasteria obliqua. We keep the variation as "liliputana" due to the small size of the forms we received. This is likely to change.
Even the IPNI (International Plant Names Index) also maintains "bicolor" although they do have a listing for G. obliqua, albeit a bare bones one. This is especially strange because they are linked so strongly with POWO.
