That's a tough one!
The truth is, if you plant three (Sedum) stonecrops in the same planter, they will compete with each other barring any pruning on your part. This is just because they're such aggressive growers!
I have, commonly, had to weed stonecrops out of the very display beds they were planted in, here around the greenhouses, because they just threaten to take over everything.
That being said, that doesn't mean you can't plant them in the same planter. It just depends on what you want out of the planter. Do you want the plants to blend together into more of a lush, albeit disorganized, look or do you want separate, more tidy, plants? The former is much easier than the latter!
As far as planter size goes, I would argue that the bigger the better. However, this again will be up to you. What I can tell you, from a botanical perspective, is that these plants will grow to fit whatever space you give them. They are excellent ground cover plants. I hope this helps!
