Great question! Bonsai Jack's Cactus & Succulent soil is a mix of clays and pine bark fibers. You're right, it is extremely gritty and fast draining. Used straight, it's a great soil for low-water, desert succulents like Lithops (& other mesembs), cacti, and Agave. It can also be used straight in areas where rot is especially hard to combat, like indoors or in humid climates. But yes, to get your soil to stay wet longer for thirstier plants, you could absolutely mix Bonsai Jack with more organic matter like potting soil. We also love using it as a top dressing for aesthetics and gnat prevention.
